Anyone else struggling with recovering because you want to diet due to weight gain from bingeing?
I gained 25lbs in 2 years from binge eating. I just read BoB and it was AMAZING for 3 weeks I was so happy it worked. I was so confident in my new self-control and AVRT that I continued to diet. The continuing of dieting combined with the intense cravings I get the week before my period led me on a 4 day binge.
Today was my first day back on track, and I reluctantly decided to stop dieting despite my 25lb weight gain. I'm watching what I eat (i.e. making healthy choices but not restricting) but I am so anxious to lose the extra weight, too. I know I'll lose some weight once I stop bingeing, but I have a ways to go.

I feel the same way. I gained about 25+ pounds from 2 years of binge eating and now wNt so badly to get back down, especially with my wedding coming up! I have trying to make smart choices and go to the gym but it is so hard to not restrict myself knowing that I want to loose the weight. I know I will probably loose some inevitably if I am able to stop binging but still do not feel satisfied...

Wow I know this all too well. And although my weight gain was only 15 pounds, on my small frame it was pretty significant. The best advice I can give you is to LEARN about healthy eating. I'm not saying to go buy a weight watchers book. I mean you should read any of Michael Pollan's books, Eating on the Wild Side, or even watch food related documentaries on Netflix. Doing both of these things have made the switch to healthy eating not something I was doing to lose weight-but something for my health. Once you learn how good you can feel by not eating garbage, it won't become a restrictive diet anymore but something you have good feelings about doing. It won't happen overnight. But soon you will find yourself with better habits that should take off the weight. Oh and last but not least exercise! If you hate running don't do it. If you like walking your dog, great. Do that for an hour every day you will be amazed on how much it benefits you. Focus on making that your habit to take place of the bad ones you may still have. Hope this helps

Hi there! The desire to diet destroys my process every time! I start gaining control then gradually start restricting more and more until I'm in diet mode again and the overeating begins. I read a couple of books by Gillian Riley (ditching diets I think one of them was) and that has great advice on how to change your thinking from eating for weight loss to eating for health and feeling good. I highly recommend them!

Hello! I have been reading your posts, and I do the same thing. I am doing great, for two weeks, and then I realize that I want to lose weight. Then I start restricting my calories, and again I end up binging... I see these posts are from June, how are you doing right now? With weight loss as well, because I need some hope, to hear that people can get normal again...

Hey @anna91 that was 6 months ago. For the first 2 months I had a few binges but I focused on gradually losing the weight (mini goals, 2-5lbs at a time). I've lost 18lbs of the 28. Before binge eating, I was actually 10lbs under my "normal, comfortable" weight, so even though I have 10lbs to lose, technically I'm at already at my normal weight, just not my "pre binge eating" weight.
I binged once since June. I overeat once every 2 weeks or so but even then I usually end at 2000 calories for the day so even my occasional overeating isn't bad and I rarely feel guilty about it. I just recently returned to less flexible dieting to lose the last 10lbs but I'm happy where I am.
Life is a huge blessing now that I've overcome my binge eating habit. Im so grateful... this book literally saved my life. I was on the fast track to obesity as my binge habit just became more and more compulsive.

I am so happy to read this! It gives hope! Just, it is hard to accept myself with 25 extra pounds... Thank you so much for your reply!!! And 18 pounds in six months is awesome! So you have generally been eating 1600 kcal per day or so?

I know this is an old thread but I can totally relate! This is exactly what happens to me...the diet and binge cycle. I diet and lose weight , I am in total control, restricting my calories and food choices but at some point, it could be a week, it could be 3 months, I totally lose it and the binge cycle starts.
The restricting is totally connected to the binge cycle. But when I am bingeing I am freaking out because I know I will gain weight and I always do, so I then get it under control and go back to restricting and the cycle begins yet again.
I actually feel physical stress and body tension when I think about not being able to diet, my brain freaks out, my body freaks out. It is a crazy cycle that I have no control over.
